Wednesday Writing Journal: 2013-05-29

It’s been a great week of productive writing for me. I’ve managed to get through a little over 7,000 words in the past week. I need more weeks like this one! I’m fairly deep into chapter 4 of Warmother, which is the final book in the Laurin trilogy. How many chapters are there going to be? I’m not entire sure. I have fifteen in the planner, but that never sticks. I tend to grow new concepts and text as things progress. It’ll probably land around my normal chapter count of 22-23 chapters. We’ll see how it goes.

From time to time, my muse rears her head and talks to me. I’ve managed to capture some of these conversations and am sharing them with you. I will warn you that my muse is a potty-mouth. I have no control over what she tells me. Sorry.

Muse: I have a brilliant idea for you!

Me: Cool. What do you have in mind for adjusting Laurin’s final story?

Muse: Oh. This has nothing to do with her. It actually has nothing to do with Lauremor or the entire world you’ve built.

Me: …

Muse: What’s the matter with you? Do you think my ideas are pure shit?

Me: No, but I’m right in the middle of concluding Laurin’s story. Now you want to dump this new thing on me?

Muse: That’s right. Grab your pen and paper. Here’s the idea. It’s a whole new magic system. New faith system, too. Oh. The entire story will be set in a city.

Me: In a city? That’s a change up.

Muse: The whole thing is a change. It’s time for you to do something new… once you’re done telling Laurin’s story.

Me: *sigh* Fine. What do you have for me.

Muse: *whispers in my ear*

Me: That’s it? You’ve given me a setting, two magic systems, two main characters, and an opening scene. Where’s the plot line?

Muse: I’m not going to give you everything at once, you know. You can’t handle the huge dump of information I’m growing for you. I’ll give it to you in due time. Just be patient with me. *fades into the darkness*

Me: *grumbles something about strange forces twisting his mind*

Humph. I’ve been a bad writer. I don’t have much to report for this week. 8,500 words are done on Warmother, but none of them came in the past week.

We’ll see what the upcoming week brings. Maybe more words? Maybe just more code for Pikes Peak Writers.

Monday Muse: 2013-05-20

The muse has been silent for a week or so. Either that, or I’ve managed to completely shut her out with web development work for the Pikes Peak Writers. I’m not sure which it is, but I can feel her breathing hard on the back of my neck. I’d better get back to writing soon, or suffer her wrath.

*sigh*

From time to time, my muse rears her head and talks to me. I’ve managed to capture some of these conversations and am sharing them with you. I will warn you that my muse is a potty-mouth. I have no control over what she tells me. Sorry.

Me: This is some dark stuff.

Muse: What is?

Me: The next story about Laurin you’ve planted in my head to write.

Muse: Yes. I made it more gritty and ominous than anything you’ve ever written. I think it’ll be a nice challenge for you to up your game with.

Me: I hope I’m up to the task for executing the story properly.

Muse: *slaps me on the back of the head* Of course you’re good enough! Do you think I’d have given you the story idea if you weren’t?

Me: *rubbing knot on head* Thanks?

Muse: Damn straight you should thank me! It’s a grand story idea.

Me: *looking at outlined notes* There’s lots of death in here.

Muse: How’s that different from what you’ve written before?

Me: Good point.

Muse: Now get back to writing. I want to see how the story turns out. *fades into the darkness*
